At Puffin Packaging, we’re passionate about sustainability, innovation, and the incredible potential of wool. 2024, we were honoured to receive the Innovation in Wool Award at the Great Yorkshire Show, recognising our pioneering use of British wool in cold chain packaging.
Why Wool?
Wool has been used for centuries for its natural insulation, durability, and sustainability. At Puffin, we’ve harnessed these properties to create high-performance, biodegradable, and compostable insulated packaging that keeps food, pharmaceuticals, and other temperature-sensitive goods at the perfect temperature—without relying on harmful plastics. We have been doing this since 2017 but in collaboration with University of Huddersfield we improved and maximised our recipe!
Our award-winning wool blend was developed in collaboration with our KTP from University of Huddersfield, and Puffin also now has a 100% British wool option, supporting the agricultural community, and making use of a valuable natural resource that might otherwise go to waste.

The Great Yorkshire Show is one of the UK’s most prestigious agricultural events, celebrating British farming, rural life, and, of course, the best innovations in wool. Our recognition at the show was a huge moment for our team, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable packaging solutions that make a real difference.
